UNDERSTANDING YOUR HEARING
Sometimes, it’s earwax. A buildup can block the ear canal and muffle sound. Removing that blockage may improve hearing without a hearing aid.
Wax removal cannot treat every type of hearing loss. An examination helps identify the cause; if hearing remains reduced afterward, we can recommend a hearing evaluation or medical follow-up.

Earwax normally moves toward the ear opening as the skin renews. Sometimes it collects instead. Cotton swabs can push wax farther in, and some people develop repeated blockages. Removing troublesome buildup helps clear the canal while preserving the ear’s natural protection.
Wax does not need to be removed simply because it is present. Care may be needed when it causes symptoms or prevents a clear examination. If you wear hearing aids or have recurring buildup, ask us whether periodic ear checks would be helpful.

We start with your symptoms and ear health, then choose an appropriate approach.
We discuss your symptoms and ear history, then examine the canal to see whether wax is the problem and whether removal is appropriate.
Professional removal may use specialized instruments, suction, or irrigation when suitable. The method depends on your ear health, with your comfort and safety guiding the visit.
We recheck your ears and discuss any remaining symptoms, hearing testing, or referral. You’ll also receive guidance on caring for your ears at home.
EVERYDAY EAR HEALTH
Earwax is protective, and ear canals usually clean themselves. The goal is healthy ears—not removing every trace of wax.

GOOD QUESTIONS
If wax is blocking sound, removal may return hearing to its previous level. It will not reverse hearing loss from other causes. Persistent hearing difficulty deserves further evaluation.
There is no single schedule for everyone. Many people do not need routine removal. If wax repeatedly builds up or you wear hearing aids, ask us whether periodic ear checks would help.
Contact our team for instructions. Do not insert tools or start drops just to prepare. Tell us about ear tubes, previous surgery, drainage, or any recent change in hearing. Bring your hearing aids, if you wear them, and let us know about previous wax removal or recurring ear problems.
Your comfort matters. Let your clinician know immediately if you feel pain or dizziness so they can pause and reassess. The approach may need to change depending on your ears and the wax.
